Programs and Services
Night Shelter Program: The Night Shelter Program is our most intensive program. Up to 50 Night Shelter residents not only have full access to our Services Only Program but also have a bed for up to 90 days and intensive case management. To enter the Night Shelter, one must commit to working on obtaining sustainable housing and be clean and sober at entry and willing to try to remain so for the duration of his/her stay. At the beginning of their 90 day stay, Night Shelter clients participate in a comprehensive, empathetic assessment process so that their unique barriers to obtaining sustainable housing can be addressed. The primary barrier to permanent housing is poverty. To address poverty, case managers focus on helping clients identify and/or increase sources of income, save money toward housing and acquire sustainable housing. Clients in the Night Shelter Program are obligated to save 70% of their income and work with their case managers to achieve the goals established in their personal action plans.
Services Only Program: For people who are homeless but do not have a bed in our Night Shelter Program, this program provides a wide range of services on a walk-in or appointment basis. Services available include: employment assistance, substance abuse evaluations, mental health assessments, meals, health care, referrals for clothing, transportation assistance, and networking to other community resources. During the colder months, the Services Only Program also provides shelter through the Winter Programs.
Winter Programs: Whenever the temperature/wind-chill is 20 degrees or below, the Shelter Association utilizes the common room in the Service Center as a place of refuge for individuals who are homeless and are not currently enrolled in the Night Shelter program. Prior to the opening of the Robert J. Delonis Center, the new home of the Shelter Association, this life-saving service was available only during the depth of winter- January through March.
The Service Center offers shelter and warmth during the night for up to 30 homeless individuals and the Rotating Shelter, a collaborative effort beteween the Shelter Association and fifteen local congregations, provides emergency shelter for an additional 20 individuals per night. Through the Winter Programs, an additional 50 individuals are provided shelter each night, totaling over 200 every year who would otherwise be left out in the cold.
Health Clinic: The Shelter Association's Health Clinic provides urgent care, primary care services, medical case management and health education.
